Fiston Mbuyi is a Congolese writer and journalist, best known for his works of fiction and non-fiction that explore the social and political issues of contemporary Africa. He was born on December 7, 1981, in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo.
Mbuyi spent his childhood in a mining town in Katanga province, where his father worked as a miner. As a child, he was deeply influenced by the stories his grandmother told him, and he developed a love for literature and storytelling at an early age.
