Kim Burrell, a gospel singer and pianist from Houston, Texas, refers to her music as “jazz gospel,” and because she writes a substantial amount of the songs she records and performs, she stands out in the gospel genre. She took her first vocal solo with a church choir at the age of one, so to say she began performing early would be an understatement.
